The Department of Civil Engineering extended its activities by launching MSc programs in the academic year of 2010-2011 and is currently admitting students to the three Master’s programs in the subdisciplines of Structural Engineering, Soil Mechanics and Water and Hydraulic Structures Engineering. This department will launch a PhD program in the subdiscipline of Structural Engineering in the academic year of 2013-2014. The department has also obtained the required permissions to admit students to a PhD program in Water and Hydraulic Structures Engineering. This department is conducting researches in a wide range of areas namely Structure, Earthquake, Light Steel and Composite Structures, Plates and Shells, Finite Elements, Retrofitting, Traditional Structures, Optimization, Numerical Methods, Construction Management and Administrative Procedures, Water Resources, Water and Sewage Networks, Marine Structures, Geotechnical Engineering, Soil and Rock Mechanics. Moreover, the laboratories of Soil Mechanics, Construction Materials, Concrete Technology and Hydraulics are available for BSc, MSc and PhD students. Although not long has passed since the establishment of the department (since 2006), a considerable number of BSc students of the department have managed to achieve high ranks in the final stages of National Student Olympiads (in Civil Engineering). In addition, approximately 30% to 50% of the BSc students of the department succeed in getting admitted to MSc programs in prestigious universities every year. |
