Following the establishment of the Faculty of Science in the University of Isfahan in 1964 and admitting students to programs in Chemistry and Physics, teaching chemistry began to flourish in Isfahan. The department of Chemistry began its activities as an independent department in October 1964 and admitted students to programs in Pure Chemistry and Teaching Chemistry since 1965. The department began to admit students to BSc programs in Applied Chemistry in 1988. MSc and PhD programs in different sub-disciplines of Chemistry were launched in the period between 1985 to 1994. In 2012 following the approval of the University’s Board of Trustees, this department was developed into the Faculty of Chemistry.
Currently, this department, benefiting from 31 faculty members and educational staff, is educating approximately 500 BSc students in Pure Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry and Nano Chemistry in five departments of Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and Polymer Chemistry.
The Faculty of Chemistry is equipped with such hi-tech, and in some cases unique, laboratories, apparatuses and equipments as well as numerous research centers that it can be regarded as one of the country’s most-comprehensively equipped chemistry faculties. In a separate building, which is 10500 square meters in area and is especially devoted to this faculty , teachers and officials offices are located in addition to 12 educational and 15 research laboratories. Numerous laboratories and research apparatuses like NMR 400MHz(multi-core) GC,HPLC, Atomic Adsorption ,UV-Vis, XRF, XRD, FT-IR, GC-Mass , Single Crystal X-ray Crystallography are among the faculty’s special equipments.
